Baseline Study
Source Identification
Water Supply System Design
The project is implemented in Afar and Somali Regions Woredas; three in Afar (Elidar, Afambo and Asayita) and one in Somali Region (Aysha). The project is mainly implemented in 16 kebeles bordering Djibouti to strengthen the production systems of the pastoralists and Agro-Pastoralists, to increase their income and diversify their livelihoods thus contributing to enhance the drought resilience of communities in selected cross-border regions in the arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs).
The program is financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of German Government through KfW, as part of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) grant funds for a Regional Fund for Strengthening Drought Resilience[SDR], while IGAD is responsible for the overall strategic regional coordination of the drought resilience initiative, the implementation is through the Drought Resilience and Sustainable Livelihood Program (DRSLP) of the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture. Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) awarded the project Blue Matrix Consultancy (BMC) for the consultancy services of Feasibility Study, Design and Preparation of Contract Documents and for Various Multipurpose Water Infrastructures and Supervision and Contract Administration of Drilling of Productive Water wells. The Project main feature is to identify appropriate water source in the most unlikely areas located in arid part of the nation; BMC study and investigation identified several type of sources applicable in the water scarce areas for multiple water use as tabulated below; where ground water investigation and headwork design for all source types is followed with water reticulation system, power source solar pumping systems.
The overall project cost estimated is ETB 625,852,510[Euro 13,137,122.38], currently borehole source drilling bid process is ongoing. |
