The Gure-Shembola Refugee camp and host communities water supply and sanitation project in Benishangul Gumuz region, Mao Komo wereda is aimed to address the existing critical water supply and sanitation problems in Gure- Shembola refugee camp and host kebeles.
The project is funded by German Development Cooperation through KfW Development Bank. As per the ToR, UNICEF has recently completed the feasibility study and design for the long-term water supply for Gure-Shembola refugee camp and the two kebeles that are hosting the refugee camp. The water supply system is designed to supply water to 19,000 refugees and 15,200 host community population; the design population includes a 2.4% population growth over a 10-year design period. Gure and Shembola are two Kebeles, each with nine villages. On completion, the water supply, is therefore, designed to serve a total population of about 34,200 persons.
