Overview

The inadequacy of the Water Supply System from Hasaliso for the Harar Town residents and surrounding rural villages is increasingly putting pressure on the population.

The inadequacy of water supply source to meet the demand of the Harare town and the surrounding rural scatter settlements is so critical that, to alleviate the rural water shortage in areas of sofi and Erer Woreda’s and to ease stress on the town water supply; the Harari Regional State has obtained part of this grant from Federal Government of Ethiopia to finance Harari Region Rural Water Supply project through SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) program. The provision of water supply system expected to benefit over 30,000 population living in the periphery and outskirt of Harar town and other rural villages of the Harari Regional State, namely (Kele, Aw-Bahar, Aw-Digdig, Harewe, Genda Sherdone, Aw-Musa, Silfisida, Miay, Aw-Umer , Deker.

The project, whose civil works construction began in early January 2015 consists of shallow wells drilled in Erer Valley that transfer water to collector pumping station at Erer to be transferred in 300mm dia 18km transmission lines via four pumping station operating in series to 1000m3 Hakim Reservoir.
